At the time of the competition in 1992, Berlin was hoping to be selected as the host city of the 2000 Olympic Games, held in Sydney. The Velodrome and the swimming pool were indeed realised, although in watered down versions, mofified to serve as multifunctional facilities. The site, covering ten hectares, is situated in the eastern part of Berlin, where the boundaries of three city distric intersect.
Velodrome, hall for multiple use: cycling, athletics, tennis, sports education, horseracing, concerts, etc...; (11420 spectators, 5583 seats)
Swimming pool, composed of 2 Olympic pools, 1 Olympic diving board, 1 pool for handicapped persons, training boards for diving, children pool. (4200 spectators, 2136 seats)
Multisports hall with tribunes; dressing room; treatment room; parking; administration offices; fitness.
